Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

July, 2022

Dear Friends,

Summer has definitely come to Jdioara. The temperatures have been in the 90’s. The children have been spending every afternoon swimming. It has been too hot to do anything else. They went to camp for a week with our church. The leaders of the camp did a great job in mixing fun activities along with Bible lessons and singing. Everyone had a great time.

David passed his exams and has enrolled in a high school in Timisoara. His family lives there so he will stay with them. Our church is also in Timisoara so he can become more involved. Please pray for him to find the right friends at school. It is so important. Bianca also passed the exams that seniors take when finishing high school. She was very excited and happy to finish that chapter of her life.

Our family is in a transition time right now. We have moved back to America for an indefinite period of time for several reasons. Karen is still having treatments every two weeks. The rest of the family needs to be here to support her in that. Bianca is going to go to Illinois College in Jacksonville where Karen’s family is at. And Karen’s parents are 90 and 91. They are needing extra care and help. Marta has decided to stay in Romania for now. She has moved into an apartment in Lugoj and is taking a computer class. Her teacher plans to help her to find a job. After working in Romania since 1994, the change to living in America is going to take adjustments for all of us. So, we appreciate all of your prayers as we go through this time.

But God is so faithful. A young woman came to us who actually grew up in Jdioara, telling us that the Lord had put it on her heart to quit her job and go into full-time ministry working with children. Her name is Valentina. She is a very brilliant and has a servant’s heart. The children have already attached themselves to her. Her whole family still lives in Jdioara, so she has a support system right there. We are still in charge of the orphanage and all of the other ministries that Beraca does. We will also supervise the finances of the ministry. Valentina will be our director. She will be responsible for the children, keeping the other ministries going, working with the authorities plus any other things which need to be taken care of in Romania. She will live in our home and be there 24/7, just like we were. Valentina brings a freshness to our work there. She has a lot of great ideas and is ready to invest her life into God’s work. So, the work will continue as usual with Valentina being there to keep it all going. We are so thankful how God works out every detail.

Thank you again for all of your faithful prayers and finances. Your support is so important to us. We hope you all have a wonderful summer.

With our love,
Ruben, Karen & Bianca
