Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

Dear Friends,

Summer has arrived but some of our children and teenagers still have two weeks left of school. Maria, our oldest, has finished high school. She has decided not to go on to college. She will be getting a job in Lugoj for now. Claudiu has also finished professional high school. He is working full-time in a village near us. Both came to us when they were just babies. Cipi Mircov, who also was only three years old when he came to stay at Beraca, is getting married this month. We are excited for all three of them as they start their new lives.

Last month, a church invited us to spend the day with them. During their church service, our children and teenagers sang a few songs and recited Scripture verses. Then we had a chance to share about our ministry as well as share the Word of God. Afterwards, we all ate together. Then the young people of the church had games, a puppet show, and other things planned for our children. They played all afternoon. At the end of the day, some of our teenagers sang worship songs in sanctuary. They sounded beautiful. It was a great day for everyone.

A few of our children went to a cook-out/evening with their Sunday school class. The leaders have done a great job to include our children in everything. They had games, singing around the campfire and lots of food. The children really enjoyed themselves. We are thankful that they can make friends from Christian families and be surrounded with a Christian influence.

Agriculture is in full swing now in Jdioara. A couple of our older boys are going every afternoon to work to pick strawberries in some fields nearby. Our garden at the farm looks great. We have already been enjoying salad, radishes, and green onions. Cutting grass in the fields and collecting the hay from them for our cows has started as well. Plus, we have been doing some general cleaning after a long winter. We have already filled one van of clothes and things to give away. It feels good to have the nice weather and be able to get outside and work.

We appreciate so much all your prayers for our ministry here. We also want to thank you for your faithful finances. We will be going to America on June 25 for a couple of months. Karen’s Dad will be turning 90 years old in July. Karen also has her six months checkup in August. Please pray for a safe trip as we travel back to the USA. We would love to hear from you and see you. We do not have a phone number yet, but you can contact us through e-mail or messenger until then. God’s blessings to you.

With our love,
Ruben, Karen & Bianca
